What is a Level 2 At-Home Sleep Test?
A Level 2 at-home sleep test is a comprehensive diagnostic tool used to assess sleep disorders, including obstructive sleep apnoea and other breathing-related sleep conditions. This test is performed in the comfort of your own home and provides detailed insights into your sleep patterns, breathing, and overall sleep health.
What Does the Test Measure?
The Level 2 at-home sleep test records multiple physiological parameters while you sleep, including:
- Brain activity (EEG) to monitor sleep stages
- Breathing patterns and airflow
- Oxygen levels in the blood
- Heart rate and rhythm
- Body movements and position
- Snoring and respiratory effort
Who Needs a Level 2 Sleep Test?
A Level 2 sleep test is recommended for adults who experience symptoms such as:
- Loud snoring or choking during sleep
- Excessive daytime sleepiness or fatigue
- Pauses in breathing during sleep (as reported by a partner)
- Difficulty staying asleep or waking up unrefreshed
- High blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or other conditions linked to sleep apnea
- Suspected sleep disorders that require more detailed monitoring than a standard home sleep test (Level 3)
What is the Process?
- Referral & Booking: Your doctor will refer you for the test, and our team will schedule an appointment to provide the testing equipment and instructions.
- Equipment Collection: You will visit a Manse Medical clinic to collect the sleep monitoring device and receive training on how to apply the sensors correctly.
- Testing at Home: On the night of the test, you will wear the device as instructed and sleep in your usual environment.
- Return & Analysis: The next day, you will return the device to our clinic, where our sleep specialists will analyse the recorded data.
- Results & Next Steps: A specialist will review your results, and a follow-up consultation will be arranged to discuss findings and potential treatment options if necessary.
How to Prepare for the Test
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol on the day of the test, as they can affect sleep quality.
- Stick to your regular routine and go to bed at your usual time.
- Ensure clean, dry skin before applying the sensors to improve signal quality.
